What You Need to Know Before Creating a Logo and Why Presentation Matters

  • November 24, 2025
  • By HelperNova
If you’re creating a new brand and want a standout logo, this blog is for you. We’ll walk through the logo-creation process step by step, help you understand your brand’s core values, and share practical methods so you can create a logo that fits your budget and vision.

Table of Contents

Why You Should Start With a Logo Presentation (Not the Logo Itself)

When you start building a new brand, the process can feel overwhelming. Ideas come from every direction, and it becomes hard to organize your thoughts or choose the right steps. Even when you think you know what you want, maybe you already imagine the logo’s shape or color — turning that idea into something clear and usable is not as easy as it seems.

This is exactly the problem a logo presentation solves.

It helps you slow down, get clarity, and understand what your brand actually stands for.

Instead of jumping straight into design, you first create a simple structure that:

  • Organizes your ideas
  • Defines your message
  • Reveals your brand values
  • Helps you understand what customers should feel when they see your brand

In other words, this presentation helps you survive the confusing creative phase and move toward a brand that feels intentional, not random.

If you plan to work with a designer, the presentation becomes even more valuable. You can send them this presentation directly and it will make the whole process easier for both of you.

Getting Started

To build this presentation, you need a tool that is simple, flexible, and beginner-friendly.

This is why we recommend Canva.

It gives you everything you need: templates, easy editing, and a clean interface, so creating your presentation feels easy instead of stressful. You can save your slides as a PowerPoint, download them as a PDF, or simply share a link with someone on your team.

Step 1: Brand Identity

Your first slide should give a simple overview of your brand.

For example:

Name – HelperNova

Website – https://www.helpernova.com/

Industry – Marketing & Online Business

Defining your industry is important because every field has its own design rules, patterns, and expectations. These are not strict laws, but more like natural standards that help your brand feel familiar and trustworthy to the audience.

For example, medical brands usually use blue and green tones to communicate trust and calmness. Educational brands often choose dark blue and gold to express authority and stability. Tech companies prefer cooler colors and more abstract shapes to show modernity and innovation.

That is why you should clearly define your industry before you start designing, it will guide your style and make your branding feel more intentional.

Step 2: What Your Brand Actually Does

On the second slide, you need to clearly describe what your brand does. Keep it simple and straightforward.

For example:

What does HelperNova do?

HelperNova is a website that offers valuable content about Personal Development, Digital Marketing, and Internet Services. We publish blogs, guides, and reviews to help our audience learn, grow, and move closer to their goals.

You should do the same for your brand.

Imagine that you are sending this presentation to a designer who has never heard of your business before. Write it in a way that helps them understand what you do, what your purpose is, and what kind of ideas your brand represents. The clearer you are here, the easier it will be for you or for  someone else to visualize the right logo for your business.

Step 3: Who You Serve (Target Audience)

The third slide is all about your target audience and who your brand serves. Let’s use HelperNova as an example.

Who do we serve?
  • Aspiring entrepreneurs and freelancers who want to grow their online income
  • Marketing specialists and small business owners looking for digital tools and knowledge
  • People interested in productivity and personal development who want to become more effective and successful
What do they need?
  • Practical and actionable advice about online products and tools
  • Blog posts, in-depth reviews, and product comparisons
  • Clear explanations of digital services and marketing strategies
  • Help making better buying decisions when evaluating tools and services

Take a moment and think: who does your brand include, and who is your customer? Write this clearly on the slide so anyone who reads it understands exactly who you are speaking to.

Step 4: Brand Character and Tone

Based on your business model and industry, you need to define your brand’s character.

For example:

Brand Values
  • Supportive and helpful – providing valuable and practical advice
  • Innovative – staying on top of digital trends
  • Trustworthy – offering well-researched and reliable content
Voice and Tone
  • Professional and friendly
  • Motivating and inspiring
  • Clear and simple

Step 5: The Meaning Behind the Brand Name

Why HelperNova?

“Helper” means a supportive guide who helps people achieve success.

“Nova” represents newness, growth, and innovation.

Additional benefits of the name:

It performs well on Google, the domain is available, it is short and easy to remember, and most importantly, it reflects the core idea of the business – helping people and bringing innovation.

Step 6: Brand Slogan

Every successful brand has a slogan that sticks in people’s minds. For example, Nike’s Just Do It. It is short but powerful. It tells you to stop overthinking and start taking action. This can be applied in any field, not just sports.

Our brand slogan is Your Digital Guide

If you are struggling to come up with an idea, sit down, listen to good music, check other brand slogans, or ask ChatGPT to help with brainstorming. Create a slogan that truly reflects your brand’s personality.

Step 7: Logo Style

Before deciding on your logo style, take a look at your competitors’ logos and see what styles they use. Then think about what you have in mind and whether it fits your brand. Explore industry trends. Sites like Pinterest, Behance, and Dribbble can be great for inspiration. Your logo should feel modern, not outdated, and it should be memorable.

HelperNova Logo example

For example, we wanted our logo to be minimalist and modern. We also wanted both a symbol and the brand name as text. Our logo style combines a wordmark and an icon. The theme is tech and growth-inspired. For the color, we chose Coral Red #E14D43, which feels modern and distinctive to us.

Color Code Example

Logos can come in different types, like a long logo or a big logo. There are also various logo styles:

  • Wordmark – A logo made entirely from the brand’s name using unique typography.
  • Letterform – A logo created from a single letter that represents the brand.
  • Monogram – A logo made from two or more initials of the company name.
  • Abstract – A geometric or symbolic shape that doesn’t represent anything literal but expresses an idea or feeling.
  • Combination – A mix of text + icon used together or separately.
  • Emblem – Text placed inside a symbol or badge, often more traditional and detailed.
Logo Types

To pick the right colors for your logo, it is important to understand color psychology and industry trends.

Here is a short guide to color psychology.

This is essentially a color wheel, and there are rules about which colors work well together. For example, complementary colors often pair nicely, or a smooth transition of three colors can create harmony.

Every color has a code. If you find a color you like, you can look up its code online or search for it in Google using the code.

For example, color psychology by industry:

Industry Primary Colors (Brand Palette)
Medical & Healthcare Bright Blue – Trust Bright Green – Healing White – Cleanliness
Education Dark Navy – Authority Bright Purple – Intellect Gold Yellow – Tradition
Technology & IT Vivid Blue – Professionalism Vivid Purple – Innovation Dark Gray – Modernity Neon Violet – Energy
Finance & Banking Dark Blue – Stability Bright Green – Growth Black – Seriousness Gold Orange – Prestige
Beauty & Fashion Hot Pink – Softness & Emotion Dark Gray – Elegance White – Minimalism
Food & Restaurants Bright Red – Appetite Bright Yellow – Friendliness Bright Green – Freshness Brown – Natural Feel
Sports & Fitness Bright Red – Strength Bright Orange – Motivation Dark Gray – Dynamics Lime Green – Energy
Eco & Nature Bright Green – Nature Brown – Earthiness Beige – Calm
Entertainment & Media Bright Purple – Creativity Neon Violet – Energy Bright Blue – Digital Feel
Real Estate & Architecture Bright Blue – Stability Gray – Professionalism Dark Gray – Quality Bright Green – Eco-friendly

Once you pick your main color, choose a few additional colors that complement it. These will help create a cohesive palette for your logo, website, printed materials, business cards, or social media. You can ask ChatGPT for help with a Prompt like this:

My brand’s main color is #E14D43 and my industry is [industry]. Please suggest 3 complementary colors to create a cohesive logo color palette for my brand.

Regarding fonts, if you have the technical skills, you can create a custom font in Illustrator or choose a unique typeface that matches your brand. The font you pick should reflect your brand personality and remain readable and consistent across all uses.

Step 8: Where to Use Your Logo

On this slide, you need to define where you plan to use your logo. For example, your website, social media profiles, branded clothing, printed materials, and more.

You also need to know that your logo will be required in different formats depending on the use.

For example:

  • Standard photo format jpg
  • PNG format, which has a transparent background. This means whatever you place it on will show through behind the logo
  • CMYK format, which we use when printing the logo on physical items. This format ensures the colors are accurate for print
  • RGB format, which is used for digital purposes
  • Icons can be saved separately and are often used for advertising

It is a good idea to create a dedicated logo folder on your computer and save your logo in all the necessary formats. This makes it easier to use your logo correctly and reflects your brand’s professionalism. Using the wrong format can make your brand look unprofessional.

Logo Folder and Types

Also, don’t forget about your Favicon that tiny icon that shows up in the browser tab. It’s a small detail, but it makes your website look polished and professional. If you want, we explain exactly how to create one and add it to your site in our full Favicon guide here.

Favicon Example

Step 9: Additional Comments

On the ninth slide, you can add any comments or notes. This is where you can include details that didn’t fit on the other slides. For example, you can guide the designer on whether they should choose the colors themselves, attach the color palette that works for your logo, or add any other instructions.

Once you complete this presentation, you will have a much clearer understanding of your brand and a better idea of exactly what you want.

Free Tools for Logo Creation

When searching on Google, you will often find tools claiming to let you create a logo for free. However, once you go through all the steps and decide to save your logo, they suddenly ask for payment. You cannot save your work without paying. Our goal is to help you avoid this disappointment and save you time and frustration. Here are some free logo creation tools that we actually use:

Canva Free Version – With Canva’s free plan, you can choose the logo creation option and use pre-made templates. You can change them, combine elements, add your logo color, and save as JPG or PNG.

Canva Free Logo

Figma – The Starter plan is free with some limitations. Figma is a vector-based design tool that helps you create clean and scalable logos using color palettes and existing templates.

Hatchful by Shopify – This mostly uses existing logo templates and inserts your brand name. It’s good for imagining different styles and exploring ideas. The customization options are limited, for example, you cannot insert your color code. After customizing, they will send your logo via email. We suggest editing that logo afterward to make it more unique.

Shopify Logo Options

Namecheap Logo Maker – One of our favorite free logo tools. It allows you to choose layouts, use your color codes, explore different logo types, fonts, add a slogan, and try 3 icon variants. You can also change sizes and see live updates on mockups. Importantly, after signing up, you get a zip file with your logo ready to use.

Namecheap logo creation

As you know, artificial intelligence tools also offer logo creation. However, the free version usually only gives you a flat image and not a PNG file. It depends on your preference which tool you want to use. We think Gemini produces more refined logos for image creation.

You can also remove backgrounds and convert images to PNG on this website.

We also provide prompts for both models that you can fill with your brand information and copy into AI chats. You can request changes to the results, but small adjustments are often difficult, so it’s better to send a detailed and well-prepared prompt from the start.
